Sharnana 2025

Date

October / November 2024

Sharnana was exhibited at the 2024 Sculpture by the Sea and quickly became one of the most loved sculptures ever displayed in the 26-year history of the event, winning both the People’s Choice and Kids’ Choice awards. Viewed by over 50,000 visitors, it also attracted international attention, featuring in publications across Germany, USA, China, South Africa, and Australia. This award-winning sculpture is now part of the Moon Mountain Private Collection.
Why is a shark coming out of a banana? Sharnana makes no sense — it merges a life-sized great white shark, one of the planet’s most feared creatures, with a banana, arguably the funniest and most recognizable fruit. This surreal and absurd combination invites viewers to question reality and reflect on the absurdity of existence while living on a spinning rock in infinite space, dodging asteroids like a cosmic shooting gallery. By merging everyday forms into unexpected, irrational combinations, Sharnana prompts a playful yet profound consideration of one’s own existence and the absurd.

Dimensions; L 2203 x H 1330 x W 1150mm
